Autonomous University Model of United Nations

We are proud to announce the first edition of AUMUN. This Model of United Nations will take place at the Autonomous University from the 13th to the 15th on this October 2016.

Dear Delegate:

“By rights we shouldn´t even be here, but we are. It´s like in the great stories Mr. Frodo. The

ones that really mattered.”

The Lord of The Rings

Every great story has a beginning. It all started in a dark basement in the Faculty of Political Science with less than ten members in 2012. Most of them left. A year later, the few brave remaining students tried a new foundation and then UAMIMUN, the MUN Society of the Autonomous University of Madrid, started to bloom.

After four years of intensive training, travelling, debating during long days and meeting extraordinary people from all over the world, here we are, writing the first page of the AUMUN tale. Like in the great stories.

We cannot be more passionate,  hopeful and committed with this edition of AUMUN. We have worked hard to offer you the most challenging topics, to select the most prepared chairs and to make you feel as comfortable and excited as we are.

All the cards are on the table to make AUMUN 2016 an MUN to remember, the beginning of a spotlight in the academic calendar capable of bringing together outstanding students from every corner of Spain and Europe.

We just need one extra ace in this pack of cards: you.

      Welcome to AUMUN 2016.

Francisco Javier Sanabria

Opening ceremony

It is our pleasure to introduce one of our speakers, Francisco Sanabria, one of the most important figures for the Spanish representation in the international stage. After beginning his career fulfilling several important positions in Spanish embassies throughout the world, in places such as Quito, Kinshasa, Prague... and being a Counselor for the Spanish representation at the European Union in Brussels, he became General Sub-director for the EU and International Justice Affairs in the Ministry of Justice. Afterwards, from 2010 to 2014, he gained even more importance in the international field by holding the position of Counselor and Coordinator for the Spanish representation at the United Nations in its New York headquarters. Right now, he is the General Director for the United Nations and Human Rights (UNHRC) inside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, which is the position that has the obligation of planning and coordinating the Spanish position in relation of prevention of military conflict, laying down guide lines to the Spanish foreign policy.

Antonio Salort-Pons

Closing ceremony

Our next speaker has over 15 years of experience in both humanitarian and international positions all over the world. Beginning his career by helping in the French embassy on the Netherlands, he also worked inside the European Comission on its representation at the United Nations by being in charge of drafting reports on issues on illicit trade of small arms and light weapons. However, it was in 2004 where his most important work began inside the World Food Programme (WFP), starting from its logistics (analyzing the stocking of commodities and requirements and being the manager of several projects) to being a Donor Relation Officer (in charge of the relation between the donations from different countries supporting the WFP) to finally becoming the Head of the WFP in Spain, developing the relations between the NGO and Spanish foreing policy.
